Social Media and The Effects on Children

Updated: Jun 5, 2020

In today’s society it is not uncommon for children as young as elementary school to have smart phones with social media accounts. Social Media has a new kind of marketing taking over platforms known as, Social Media Influencers, people whose job is to do exactly that, influence. This drastic increase in social media usage, paired with the explosion in popularity of influencers has an effect on the development of a child, specifically their levels of stress and anxiety, negative self-image issues, and the encouragement to be more materialistic. Social media use can be fun for you or your child but without the proper monitoring it can cause issues. If this seems like a problem you or your child has, please reach out to Boca Behavioral Health for more information and/or assistance.
