Professional Counseling & Expressive Therapy Groups

Group therapy is a highly effective way to work through many types of life's challenges. Support groups offer each member individualized strategies to work through various needs.  In all groups we will establish safety, respect, and work towards new patterns of social connectedness and self-reflection. I have 17 years of experience as a Professional School Counselor and 3 years as a private Mental Health Therapist. I am also a trained yoga practitioner for kids and a professional artist, so all members of my groups will experience a creative approach towards self-exploration & expression, mindfulness, and will learn many therapeutic strategies and skills. There are various choices of groups that will be offered throughout 2019.  Please to take a few minutes to look over these groups. Feel free to contact me directly to determine if a therapy group is right for you, a loved one, or even a client or patient.  Many thanks, I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Art & Yoga, Play Therapy & Mindfulness Groups

Your child will explore each of the 7-senses and learn how they can use them to calm and organize their body. This group is great for all kids especially those with anxiety, attention concerns, difficulty with self-regulation, executive functioning or sensory processing differences.  In this 10-week creative mindfulness group we will use painting, drawing, creative writing and journaling, photography, music and more—as tools known to be naturally mindful practices. If your child seeks a blend of concrete and expressive ways to be more present, then Art and Mindfulness is a simple way to develop their capacity to focus, concentrate, and be more at peace. This group is designed to assist adolescents in Mindfulness- where they can learn to focus attention where they choose: Their environment, body, thoughts and emotions-responding non-judgmentally, as opposed to reacting to life- where they are present in the moment, leading to balance and well-being. Ages 10-13: $45

Banana Splits Groups: A Group for Children Impacted by a Divorce

Processing the divorce is a difficult journey no matter the age. Children of all ages have a lot of feelings and thoughts about their parent’s divorce. Some children are overwhelmed immediately, and some develop symptoms over time. Groups for children whose parents are divorcing or are already divorced, can help them feel less alone with this problem. Each group focuses on helping children and teens heal and to move beyond the mixed and often painful feelings in a developmentally appropriate manner. Our goal for this group is to help the children to work together and to learn from each other.  We will work to understand the love that lead to the foundation of a family, through the conflict that can “split” the family, and back to the present where we work to develop a better understanding of ongoing love and acceptance. Groups will be formed for children ages 7-12. Groups will run for 10 weeks. Session cost: $45

Social Cognition-Focused Social Skills Groups (for Elementary School Age Children)

It can be painful to see your child struggling to find where they belong. And you long for them to be able to feel connected, supported, and loved. In a group setting with peers, we work with them to learn to recognize cause and effect, relationships between thought and action, how to slow social situations down, how to problem solve, and how to resolve conflict successfully. I’ll provide a supportive environment in which your child can practice these skills, and the tools to help your child build the language they need for joining and sustaining positive interactions with others. A traditional social skills group, we teach Theory-of-Mind, perspective-taking, reading social cues, and the hidden rules of socialization. From there, the group works on critical interaction skills such as assertiveness, flexibility, and compromise. The goal is for participants to successfully initiate & sustain developmentally appropriate play or conversation (& discover how to make and keep friends)! A reward system & social coaching is provided in my positive skills training approach for children ages 7 to12.  Session fee: $45

Parenting Strategies for Behavioral Problems

All too often, kids (5 to 15-year-olds) with behavioral issues at home or school (impulsivity, inattention, rule breaking, homework difficulties, aggression) are simply diagnosed with ADHD and medicated - with poor outcomes or troublesome side-effects. Alternatively, kids demand constant monitoring or discipline enforcement, leaving parents and families disrupted, angry and stressed. Prognostically, kids can grow up to have conduct disorders, personality malformations, substance abuse problems, mood disorders and adult ADHD. Not good. This weekly program is an alternative approach: created to empower parents with positive incentive and reinforcement strategies, smart and effective discipline techniques.

Open enrollment. Session fee: $75
